Earlier this summer Porsche and still-newcomer Backdrop shook hands and joined forces to create a premium home decor product that celebrates in full color the 75th Anniversary of PORSCHE cars. Collaborations like this one, from Backdrop specifically, hit home (pun intended). For almost almost a decade I was the owner of a ‘specialty high-end coatings boutique’ nestled in the North Carolina countryside of Chatham County. Which is just a fancy way to say I owned a paint store in Pittsboro, NC, USA.

Backdrop is a relatively new company with different means of selling their specialty wares in the decor category—online. The brand features a canned product that contains low-VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) paint, available in a wide-enough variety of curated colors, or as in the case with the PORSCHE collab, model specific. The purchase process eschews the traditional brick-n-mortar model—which for predetermined colors seems fine enough. A word from the wise: paint production runs in batches, so make sure you (or better yet your contractor) orders enough liquid stock (paint, not whiskey) to finish the job in one go, with extras for touch-ups and matching batch numbers for all cans involved.
Don’t let the “still-newcomer” in this Porsche X Backdrop pairing bring about hesitance, as the upstart Backdrop was smartly acquired by home decor industry giant F. Schumacher & Co. in 2021. The seemingly centuries old F. Schumacher & Co is now rebranded as just Schumacher as it looks to add a few more centuries to its history in the decor business, which for them began in 1889. The press release and images can be found below. Enjoy!

75 YEARS OF ICONIC PORSCHE COLOR
The Porsche x Backdrop 75th anniversary collection includes four iconic colors, selected from a Porsche color library steeped in heritage. Each of these four colors speaks to a specific moment in the Porsche history and embodies the cultural narrative of the time of their introduction. IRISH GREEN made its debut with the 356C in 1964 and the first 911, SPEED YELLOW was introduced alongside the 1991 911, RIVIERA BLUE was developed in 1994 and has been seen on the 911, 928, and 968 models, and RUBY STAR dating back to 1991 and seen on Porsche 911, 928 and 944.
PORSCHE IRISH GREEN
DARK HUNTER GREEN

First seen on the 356C in 1964, it quickly became a favorite among Porsche enthusiasts and adorned the original 911. Classic and elegant, Irish Green has remained a constant in the Porsche palette, even gracing the millionth 911 produced in 2017, further cementing its place in Porsche’s storied history. Now, this distinguished color is available to bring a touch of timeless elegance to any Porsche model or room.
